Remove the rudder on lift out or after lift out by digging a clearance hole underneath the rudder.

Remove the propeller and cutless bearing and unbolt the gearbox coupling. In addition to four bolts there may be a set screw through the side of the coupler. If a clamp type of coupler is used inserting a wedge into the split of the clamp and tapping the wedge with a hammer will slide the coupler off the shaft allowing the shaft to be completely withdrawn for inspection.

Shaft fouls rudder

Remove the propeller and cutless bearing and unbolt the gearbox coupling. In addition to four bolts there may be a set screw through the side of the coupler. Clamp removal

If a lip seal is fitted great care must be taken not to damage the lips whilst removing the prop shaft.
